About the Event
Initial Permits: CCW Foundations fulfills 8-hours of your 16-hour training requirement. You must also take Paladin's Basic Pistol class for the additional 8-hours. You can take the classes in either order. DO NOT sign up for a "Permit Modification" ticket if you enroll in the Initial Permit class. There is no charge for up to 3 pistols.
Renewals: CCW Foundations fulfills the 8-hour training requirement. DO NOT sign up for a "Permit Modification" ticket if you enroll as a renewal. There is no charge for up to 3 pistols.
Permit Modifications: Arrive at 12:30 p.m. for your qualification to add another pistol to your existing permit. You will be done at approximately 2:00 p.m. You don't need to pay for a modification if you are already enrolled in the full CCW Foundations class.
This class covers the state-mandated material for CCW permit holders:
- Firearm safety, handling, shooting technique, and safe storage
- Legal methods to transport firearms and securing firearms in vehicles
- Laws governing where permitholders may carry firearms
- Laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm and the permissible use of lethal force in self-defense
- Mental health and mental health resources
- Live-fire qualification (practice qualification only for Contra Costa County Sheriff applicants; official qualification will be conducted by the Sheriff)

Required Equipment:
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- Pistols to be listed on your permit with at least two magazines for each pistol
- Outside-the-waistband holster for each pistol (see our blog post on selecting the proper holster)
- At least 50 rounds of ammunition per pistol
You must have an outside-the-waistband holster for each pistol used in the live-fire qualification. Inside-the-waistband, appendix or SERPA holsters (index finger retention systems) are not allowed on the range. If you come with a deficient holster, you will have to reschedule your live-fire portion of class for an additional $100 fee. No exceptions.
You must be at least 18 years old, a United States Citizen, and legally allowed to possess a firearm in order to attend this class.
