About the Event
To survive a vehicle ambush you must immediately change the dynamic by establishing dominance over the adversary. Students will learn to use the handgun to counter “near ambushes” (distances under 25 meters). VCAT 1 will cover the following topics:
- Demonstration of cover/concealment options around vehicles
- Counter-surveillance and pre-attack indicators
- Strategies to overcome near ambushes
- Live-fire shooting while seated in the vehicle
- Exiting the vehicle under fire
- Engaging targets while outside of the vehicle
- Force-on-force scenarios to validate training
Prerequisites: Students must be U.S. citizens and legally allowed to possess a firearm. Students must have completed Paladin Tactical's Basic Pistol Course OR have equivalent pistol training (working knowledge of the pistol including loading/unloading, clearing stoppages, and safety practices).
What should I wear?
This class focuses on close, unsophisticated ambushes. Determine the circumstances in which you may subject to a close ambush. For law enforcement, these attacks may occur while on patrol, conducting a high-risk surveillance, or an executive protection mission. Therefore, wear the gear/apparel for the mission in which you have the highest probability of facing a close ambush. For citizens, wear your EDC (Everyday Carry) set-up. The drills in these classes are an excellent opportunity to test the set-up of your gear, holster, etc.
Required Equipment:
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- N95 Mask
- Gloves to protect against glass and sharp metal
- Knee and elbow pads recommended
- Long sleeve shirt for force-on-force scenarios
- Holster: "outside the waistband" holster. No inside the waistband, appendix carry, or SERPA holsters. You will not participate if you don't have an OWB and you will forfeit your class fee.
- Handgun with 3-4 magazines
- 300 rounds handgun ammunition
- Hat with bill to protect against falling brass
- Rain gear and waterproof boots for inclement weather
You must be 18+years old, a United States Citizen, and legally allowed to possess a firearm in order to attend this class.
